Welcome to San Diego, TX!

The City of San Diego, TX is in Duval County and 207 miles South of Austin, TX and 92 miles from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.  San Diego’s population is roughly 4,488 residents (2010 census).

San Diego serves as the County Seat for Duval County and easily accessible to several South Texas attractions and locations.

Our community has great schools that have been recognized by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and offers its students highly competitive academic, arts, athletic programs.

Recently, the Texas Workforce Commission partnered with the San Diego ISD to provide advanced technical training for students seeking careers in healthcare, thus, making our students competitive with higher wage jobs.

San Diego’s property tax rates are some of the lowest in the State of Texas and support economic, commercial, and residential development.

If safety is important to you, then San Diego is perfect for you and your family.  Our crime-rate is the lowest in South Texas and the city maintains a full-time police department and has the strongest volunteer fire department in the tri-county area.

Amenities, adventure, fun, and relaxation are just a drive a way.  San Diego is right in the heart of hunting territory and surrounded by ranches visited by hunters from throughout the nation.  We are 30 minutes from the world-famous King Ranch, an hour from the beautiful Gulf of Mexico, and just two hours from the Alamo City of San Antonio.  Our closest regional airport is in Corpus Christi.

While San Diego is a relatively small city, it is a family-friendly environment that offers warmth to our visitors and a strong sense of community to our residents.

On behalf of the City of San Diego and our residents, we welcome all visitors to be our guest in our great city!

Mayor Sally Lichtenberger
